TYPHOON NONA STRUCK THE ISLAND TOWNS OF ROMBLON, CORCUERA, BANTON AND CONCEPCION. CONCEPCION TOWN, AN ISLAND TOWN COMMONLY KNOWN AS SIBALE ISLAND WAS THE ONE HIT HARDEST. A SMALL VILLAGE WAS EVEN ALMOST WIPEDOUT WITH JUST 3 HOUSES REMAINING LIVEABLE OUT OF 65 WHEN HIT BY THE TYPHOON.
THE CLUB DECIDED TO CONDUCT RELIEF MISSION TO THE ISLAND BY PREPARING 200 RELIEF PACKAGES COMPOSED OF RICE, COFFEE, SUGAR, CANNED GOODS AND NOODLES. THE CLUB PRESIDENT COORDINATED WITH THE LOCAL OFFICIALS OF THE TOWN AND THE PROJECT WAS RECEIVED WARMLY BY TOWN OFFICIALS.
THE TIMOGAN’S TOOK THE RC TIMOG’S 80 FOOTER BOAT WITH END POLIO MARKINGS TO THE ISLAND OF SIBALE. SAILING TIME FROM MARINDUQUE TO THE ISLAND TOOK FOUR HOURS. THE GROUP LEFT MARINDUQUE 6AM AND ARRIVED AROUND 10AM. THE ISLAND’S MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION IS BY MOTORCYCLES SINCE THEIR ROAD NETWORK IS ONLY 3 FEET WIDE. RC TIMOG WAS THE FIRST AND ONLY NGO WHO PROVIDED HELP TO THEIR COMMUNITY.
