A Human Milk Bank (HMB) is a service established for the purpose of collecting, screening, processing, storing and donating human milk to meet the specific needs of individual for whom human milk is prescribed. These individuals include preterm babies, critically-ill neonates with necrotizing enterocolitis, feeding intolerance, immunodeficiency diseases, allergies, inborn errors of metabolism and the like who are admitted in the neonatal intensive care unit. The facility likewise serves as training ground for midwifery students and medical personnel intending to established their own HMB facility.
