“Education Beyond Boundaries”
This new program offers a free 2-year and face-to-face TESDA associate course on Business Office Management to 30 female inmates or Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) of The Bureau of Jail and Management Penology (BJMP), Sta Rosa, Laguna. After two years, they will be qualified to take an assessment exam to continue the final two years of the course under the Commision on Higher Education (Ched) to earn a bachelor’s degree.
Following an initial inspection of the area to hold the classes, it was decided to renovate the open multi-purpose area to include an enclosure, about three detachable 4×8 wooden panels, to house the 30 school chairs to be donated as part of the project. The activities (seminars, lectures, religious services, and others) of the PDLs used to be held on the floor where they sit and write (on paper). Now, they will have proper arm chairs and a glass board during classes, as they work their way to earn their diplomas.
This program aims to provide HOPE and opportunity for female PDLs who are going to be released in the near future, to arm them with a diploma as they go back to society. Earning and job opportunities are extremely rare for newly released convicted persons due to discrimination at the workplace. By giving them another chance in life through education, we are providing them real and sustainable solutions, and an answer to their question as to whether there is really hope in the world.
