Origins of RC Timog-QC
The Rotary Club of Timog – Quezon City started in early 1987 as a provisional club which was known then as the Rotary Club of Cubao Heights and was to be sponsored by the Rotary Club of Cubao EDSA. The club met every Monday at a farmhouse in Vasra, Quezon City. However, the club was never chartered as no club could be chartered then under the name Cubao.
In 1988, some members of the group composed of the late Rennie Papa, Joey Tianco, Lody Quiambao, the late Gene Canayon, Francis Rivera, Kit Victoria, Tony Leduna and a few others transferred to a new venue, in Kowloon Restaurant along West Avenue in Quezon City. The group came to be known as a “Monday Club” and went on with the usual Monday meetings at the said place.
Sometime in 1989, the late Past District Governor Jose “Pete” Morales requested Past District Secretary Badong Viari to seek out the “Monday Club” to return to the fold of Rotary after learning that they were still meeting. Subsequently, it was during the term of PDG Boy Manalac when the group became the Provisional Rotary Club of Timog, QC with the Rotary Club of Kamuning West as its sponsoring and mother club.
Thus, on March 7, 1990, the Rotary Club of Timog – Quezon City was officially chartered and admitted as a member of Rotary International, with a certificate issued by Rotary International President Hugh M. Archer. The incumbent District Governor then was the late Jose “Pete” Morales. The Club induction was held at the Manila Polo Club on August 7, 1990 with Rennie Papa and Joey Tianco inducted as Charter President and President-Elect, respectively, together with 28 charter members.
